ECOWAS deploys technical mission to observe Guinea’s elections today

The FrontierThe FrontierMay 31, 2026 1220 Minutes read0

The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) has deployed a technical election observation mission to Guinea ahead of the country’s legislative and local elections scheduled for today, Sunday, May 31, 2026.

According to the regional bloc, the mission will be in Guinea from May 24 to June 4, 2026, to monitor the electoral process and support efforts aimed at ensuring credible, transparent, and peaceful polls.

Guinean voters are expected to elect 147 members of parliament and 342 mayors during the elections.

The ECOWAS mission comprises 40 experts, including representatives of electoral management bodies and election observation specialists drawn from member states of the regional organization.

The experts are being supported by 10 officials from the ECOWAS Commission, who will coordinate and facilitate the implementation of the mission’s activities across various regions of Guinea.

The deployment forms part of ECOWAS’ commitment to promoting democratic governance, electoral integrity, and political stability within the West African sub-region.
