Edo election: Go where? – Afrobeats star Davido reacts as Police tell people to return home after casting vote

Nigerian award-winning artist, David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has opposed the suggestion that voters should return home immediately after casting their votes in the ongoing Edo State gubernatorial election.

The ‘Fem’ crooner expressed this while reacting to a statement by Frank Mba, the Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of election security, reports Saturday Tribune.

Mba, during an interview with Channels Television in the early hours of today, urged Edo residents to exercise their civic responsibility in the election and return home immediately after voting.

He also announced restrictions on vehicular movement in the state from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. today.

He said, “If you’re not accredited to participate in the election, you shouldn’t be out on the streets. Cast your vote and return home; it’s your civic duty”.

Reacting to the statement, Davido, who is affiliated with the People’s Democratic Party (PDP), expressed a contrary opinion, suggesting that residents should remain at the polling units until their votes are counted to prevent electoral malpractice.

In response to Mba’s statement, Davido tweeted, “Loooooooool go where ???”

Davido, whose mother hails from Edo State, had earlier thrown his support behind the PDP candidate, Asue Ighodalo, in the build-up to the election.

In an Instagram post dated 15 September 2024, the singer wrote, “The next Governor of my Mother’s Homeland @asueighodalo.”
