•Emefiele in court
The former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele is planning to approach the court for the variation of the N300 million bail granted him by a High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT).
“Yes, we are still on it. We hope to conclude on the bail issue before the week runs out,” a member of Emefiele’s counsel team said, reports The Guardian.
“But we will be asking the court for a variation in respect of one of the bail conditions where he was restricted to the court’s jurisdiction.”
Justice Hamza Muazu of the FCT High Court on November 17, 2023 admitted the former CBN governor to a N300 million with two sureties in like sum.
Emefiele is facing a six-count amended charge bordering on alleged procurement fraud to the tune of N1.6 billion.
The former CBN governor pleaded not guilty to the charges and was granted bail to the tune of N300 million with two sureties.
He was remanded at the Kuje Correctional Centre pending after meeting his bail conditions.
Meanwhile, an Abuja High Court has adjourned his trial until Thursday and Friday, January 18 and 19, 2024.
