The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) yesterday conducted a full-scale security emergency exercise at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Lagos.

A statement by Mr. Abdullahi Yakubu-Funtua, the Director, Public Affairs and Consumer Protection, FAAN, said that the agency yesterday carried out a bomb threat simulation exercise to assess its level of preparedness to respond to emergency.

The statement hinted that the bomb squad, Nigeria Police, Aviation Security, Fire Service department, Medical and Ground Handling companies all responded to the threat spontaneously.

Other agencies included in the emergency exercise are the Nigeria Civil Aviation Autjority (NCAA), the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA), Nigeria Air force and Team FAAN.

Yakubu-Funtua, explained that the exercise took place during the checking-in of Ethiopian Airlines passengers at the terminal.

The statement added: “Evacuation of passengers from the hall was carried out successfully. The exercise was conducted at the baggage hall of international terminal 1.”
