Falconets open Abuja camp ahead of World Cup qualifier versus Malawi

The FrontierThe FrontierApril 8, 2026 600 Minutes read0

Nigeria’s Falconets have commenced their final training camp in Abuja as they intensify preparations for their decisive FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup qualifier against Malawi.

The players began arriving in camp on April 6, with full training sessions kicking off the following day as the technical crew ramps up readiness for the crucial fixture, reports Vanguard.

The team is currently focused on fitness drills, tactical organisation, and building cohesion, with additional players expected to join in the coming days.

The two-legged qualifier will see Nigeria host the first leg on May 2 before travelling to Malawi for the return fixture a week later. The encounter will determine one of Africa’s representatives at the global tournament.

Malawi booked their place in the final round after overcoming Guinea-Bissau in the previous stage, setting up a high-stakes clash with the Falconets.

The remaining fixtures in these qualifiers include: Ghana vs Uganda, Cameroon vs Tanzania, and Cote d’Ivoire vs Benin.

The 2026 FIFA U20 Women’s World Cup is scheduled to take place in Poland from September 5 to 26, with four African teams expected to qualify.
