Federal High Court announces date to begin Easter vacation

The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court of Nigeria, Honourable Justice John Tsoho, today, said the court will embark on its annual Easter vacation from April 16 to April 28.

According to a circular signed by Hon. Justice John Tsoho, the vacation is pursuant to the provisions of Order 46, Rule 4 (C) of the Federal High Court (Civil Procedure) Rules, 2019 (as amended), reports Daily Independent.

A statement by Catherine Oby Christopher, PhD, Director, Information, Federal High Court of Nigeria, stated that the Court will resume sitting on Tuesday, April 29, 2025 in all Judicial Divisions.

Dr Oby Christopher added that during the vacation period, the Abuja, Lagos and Port-Harcourt core Judicial Divisions will remain open to the public only for cases of extreme urgency.

“It is important to note that during the vacation, only matters relating to enforcement of Fundamental Rights; Arrest or Release of Vessels and matters that concerns dire National Interest are to be entertained by Vacation Judges” Dr Oby stated.

The following Judges, according to the statement, will serve as vacation Judges: Justice Emeka Nwite and Justice Musa S. Liman Abuja Judicial Division); Justice Akintayo Aluko and Justice Isaac I. Dipeolu (Lagos Judicial Division), while Justice Phoebe M. Ayua and Justice Adamu T. Mohammed will serve as vacation judges for Port-Harcourt Division.

The statement advised the Vacation Judges and Heads of Divisions to promptly refer to the Hon. Chief Judge all matters which they believe may require His Lordship’s urgent attention and directives.

“The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court of Nigeria, Honorable Justice John T. Tsoho, wishes his fellow lordships a wonderful Easter Celebration in advance” Oby Christopher stated.
