FG lists six free CNG vehicle conversion centres in Lagos

The FrontierThe FrontierSeptember 13, 2024 1,1601 Minutes read0

The federal government has identified six locations in Lagos where vehicle owners can have their cars converted to run on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) at no cost.

This initiative is part of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGi), aimed at reducing fuel costs for Nigerians.

Announcing the initiative yesterday via his official X account, Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, revealed that the free conversions would commence today, Friday, September 13, between 3 pm and 6 pm.

He also noted that the first 50 vehicles at each of the six designated locations that pass inspection will receive free CNG conversion kits.

These vehicles will be able to refuel at ₦230 per Standard Cubic Meter (SCM) at any NIPCO station, significantly reducing fuel costs compared to petrol.

Below are the six authorised vehicle CNG conversion centres in Lagos:

Femadec: Km 42, Lekki-Epe Expressway, Majek Second Gate Stop, Abiju Ibeju, Lekki.

Portland: No. 1, Ojota Interchange Terminal, Bayo Shodipo, Ojota.

Mezovest: Km 23, Lekki-Epe Expressway, Ajah, opposite Kilimanjaro, by Abraham Adesanya Bus Stop.

Dana Motors: Dana Motors Ltd Kia Plaza, 117 Oshodi-Apapa Expressway, Isolo.

MBH Power: Km 5, Ikotun Road, Itamope, Ikorodu.

Autogig: Plot 144b Gbagada Expressway, Gbagada.

Beyond Lagos, the PCNGi’s “Operation First Come, First Serve” initiative will also conduct free CNG conversions in Abeokuta, Ogun State, and Ibadan, Oyo State, on Friday, September 13, and in Abuja and Kaduna on Saturday, September 14, between 3 pm and 6 pm.

The first 50 vehicles at each of these locations that pass inspection will also receive free CNG conversion kits.

This initiative follows the August 2023 launch of the PCNGI by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, which aims to transform Nigeria’s transportation system by introducing over 11,500 CNG-enabled vehicles and providing 55,000 conversion kits for petrol vehicles.
