Former deputy governor sworn in as Notary Public of Nigeria

Former Oyo State deputy governor, Alhaji Hazeem Gbolarumi, and 21 others have been sworn in as Notary Public of Nigeria by the Chief Judge, Justice Iyabo Yerima, at the High Court, Ibadan.

Gbolarumi, who told reporters he was grateful to God for his appointment, having applied for it in 2024, described it as a positive development for him and the society.

Gbolarumi, a chieftain of Peoples Democratic Party, listed accuracy and integrity as some of the qualities worthy of a notary public, noting the position required responsibility and commitment, reports The Nation.

He promised to uphold the profession’s standard.

“I will do my best to contribute positively and uphold the standard expected of the profession. You know we have many lawyers in this country. Many people applied, but not everyone got the opportunity. When you consider thousands of lawyers applying, maybe 10,000 to 20,000, it is very competitive. So, being granted the opportunity is significant.”

Another notary public, Fatimoh Gbadamosi, said honesty and impartiality were qualities required to serve, adding such individual must not be biased or prejudiced.

“This role involves telling the truth at all times, as you are required to witness transactions and authenticate documents. These duties can only be carried out by someone of proven integrity.”
