Former Minister Dalung labels Tinubu dwarf in Nigeria’s political history

Former Minister of Sports and Youth Development, Solomon Dalung, has launched a scathing attack on President Bola Tinubu, describing him as a “dwarf” in Nigeria’s political history and insisting he should not be compared with the country’s revered political figures.

Dalung made the remarks yesterday during an appearance on Channels Television, where he argued that true leadership is measured by legacy, service and tangible impact on the lives of citizens.

Asked whether President Tinubu could be defeated in the 2027 presidential election despite his reputation as a political heavyweight and strategist, Dalung said the President has failed to translate his perceived success as former governor of Lagos State into effective national leadership.

“Tinubu is a dwarf in Nigerian political history and should not be compared with great leaders like Sir Ahmadu Bello, the Sardauna of Sokoto, and Chief Obafemi Awolowo,” he said.

“Great leaders build legacies. They serve the people. If Tinubu is truly a great strategist, let us see that reflected in action.”

The former minister criticised the administration’s handling of insecurity, economic challenges and social intervention programmes, arguing that government policies have not delivered meaningful relief to Nigerians.

“Tinubu cannot manage insecurity, the economy, or even a simple palliative meant to cushion the effects of his economic policies,” Dalung said.

“Performance should speak louder than reputation. The economy is in shambles and corruption is flourishing. Where has this so-called great strategist made a positive impact on Nigerians?”

Dalung, who is now associated with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), said the party is positioning itself to challenge the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the 2027 presidential election.

“We have several capable people ready to challenge Tinubu,” he said.

“We will conduct a transparent primary, and whoever emerges will receive the collective support of the party to contest the presidency.”

Dalung served as Minister of Sports and Youth Development from 2015 to 2019 under the APC-led administration of former President Muhammadu Buhari.
