Former President Olusegun Obasanjo has urged Governor Ademola Adeleke to continue on the path of good governance and delivery of dividends of democracy following his re-election as the governor of Osun State.
Obasanjo gave the charge last night when he paid a surprise congratulatory visit to the newly re-elected governor of Osun State, Ademola Adeleke, at his country home, Ede, reports Channels TV.
The former president prayed for further successes of the governor and urged him to continue on the path of good governance and delivery of dividends of democracy.
“Continue to deliver good governance. Continue to meet the needs of your people,” Obasanjo charged the governor.
Governor Adeleke, who was surprised at the ex-president’s visit, expressed his gratitude to God and the people and promised to continue to be a loyal servant of the Osun people.
“Baba, I thank you for this surprise visit. I promise never to disappoint God, the Osun people and all lovers of democracy who made our victory possible,’ the governor told the former leader.
Obasanjo visited the Osun governor, accompanied by the ex-president’s ally, Otunba Oyewole Fasawe, and was received by Governor Adeleke with dancing and a song of praise to God for the successful outcome of the election.
The Osun State deputy governor, Kola Adewusi, also accompanied the governor to receive the veteran national leader.
Adeleke, who was first elected as the governor of Osun State in 2022, won a fresh bid for another four-year term on Saturday under the Accord Party platform he joined from the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) in December 2025.
The Osun governor polled 511,067 votes to emerge as the winner of the keenly contested exercise, beating his closest challenger, Bola Oyebamiji of the All Progressives Congress (APC), with a total vote count of 444,815. Najeem Salaam of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) was a distant third, having gotten 17,180 votes.
Governor Adeleke’s re-election sparked celebrations around Osun State, with his supporters trooping to the streets after he was declared as the winner of the exercise.
