Fraud: How I lost $3.5 million to my South African partner — Murray Bruce

•Ben Murray-Bruce

Former Nigerian senator and founder of Silverbird Group, Ben Murray-Bruce, has revealed how he lost $3.5 million in a fraudulent deal with his South African partner over the purchase of a cinema complex in Kenya.

Murray-Bruce disclosed this yesterday during the 4th Peace Anyiam-Osigwe (PAO) Nigeria Digital Content Regulation Conference, reports Nigerian Tribune.

He explained that after he transferred the funds for the cinema purchase, his partner fraudulently registered the business under his own name.

Murray-Bruce also shared details of ongoing legal battles involving his Los Angeles-based studio and a prominent Hollywood actor.

Looking ahead, the former lawmaker outlined plans to revitalize Nigeria’s cinema industry by venturing into movie production.

He said, “I was called to buy a cinema complex in Kenya for $3.5 million. I transferred the money and my South African partner registered it in his name. That was how I lost that huge investment.

“I have a studio in Los Angeles and I am battling with litigation with one of the most prominent actors in Hollywood.

“The entertainment industry is a very successful one. In all the things I have done, I have never made one move about movie making but now, I will.

“I am working on a script and I know we will get it right. We will deal with fundamental issues.”
