A health worker with the Federal Medical Centre Owo, Pastor Ayodeji Akesinro, has been abducted from his residence at Uprnme, Owo Local Government Area of Ondo State.

He was said to have been abducted by some armed men around 7pm on Thursday, reports Saturday Independent.

Confirming the incident, a senior labour leader under the National Union of Allied Health Professionals (NUAHP), in a message circulated among members of the union, expressed shock over the abduction.

He threatened that members of the Union would stage a protest if the victim was not rescued.

The message reads: “I am writing to bring to your attention the distressing news of the kidnapping of our colleague and member, Pastor Akesinro in his house at Upenme on Owo local government area of Ondo State at about 7pm yesterday, 28th of August, 2025.

“As a union, we have always stood strong in advocating for the welfare and security of our members. In light of this unfortunate event, members of NUAHP may need to declare a day of protest in Owo to demand the immediate and safe release of Pastor Akeshinro.

“The union further listed its demands which include the immediate and safe release of the victim, tighter security in Owo and its environs, and collaboration with security operatives to apprehend those behind the abduction.

“Injury to one is injury to all. Solidarity forever!.”

Meanwhile, the State Police Commissioner, Adebowale Lawal, who confirmed the incident, disclosed security operatives have begun combing the forest to rescue the victim.

He revealed that the police had embarked on a joint search with other sister security agencies to rescue the victim unhurt.

The police commissioner assured that the perpetrators would be arrested and prosecuted accordingly.

Mr. Adebowale Lawal told journalists in Akure yesterday that “Our men are currently inside the bush in collaboration with other sister security agencies to rescue the victim.

“Let me assure you that we are not resting to ensure the citizens of the state are well secured.

“We are collaborating with other security agencies in the state, and we are also engaging in the community to ensure everyone is involved in community policing.

“So, the police is not resting at all to ensure the people of the state sleep with their two eyes closed.”
