Heavy rainfall, wind causes of water leakage at Lagos airport

The FrontierThe FrontierFebruary 25, 2025 2570 Minutes read0

•Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos

The operator of Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal 2, Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited, has attributed the today water leakage in its ticketing hall to heavy rainfall and unusual wind patterns.

The company’s Head of Corporate Communications, Ajoke Yinka-Olawuyi, explained in a statement today that the intense weather conditions created pressure that forced rainwater through the terminal’s weatherproofing systems, reports The PUNCH.

“Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited experienced temporary water leakage today due to an unusual rainfall. This occurred when heavy rainfall combined with abnormal wind patterns directed water towards previously unaffected structural elements of the building.

“This created pressure conditions that forced rainwater through weatherproofing systems that have performed adequately in all previous weather events,” she said.

She assured all that the maintenance team acted promptly to address the issue, stating, “The terminal maintenance department responded immediately, and water removal operations have since been completed.

“The terminal remains open and operational, with the affected area fully restored. A comprehensive facility assessment is already underway to prevent similar incidents during future extreme weather events.”
