INSIDE AKWA IBOM TODAY: Nsit Ubium backs Gov Eno with scholarship awards to 53 indigent students

•Governor Umo Eno

Governor Umo Eno’s vision of Education advancement got a boost in Nsit Ubium Local Government Area as the Council Chairman, Hon. Alfred Charles hosted the Education Support Award Ceremony, November 26, 2025, at the Council Hall in Ikot Edibon.

The event which registered a total of 53 indigent students presented with cheques of sums ranging from N150,000 to N500,000 in different disciplines was received with enthusiasm by stakeholders of Nsit Ubium LGA, who trooped to the occasion in solidarity.

In setting the tone, the Vice Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Education Trust Fund, Professor Enoidem Usoro, observed that the N100 million Trust Fund was established to ensure the young people of Nsit Ubium actualise their dream of going to school without the excuse of not having sponsors.

While commending Hon. Charles for his vision and for facilitating the first phase of the education support grant, she also disclosed that the Executive Chairman sponsored two hundred indigenes to take the University Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) examination at the four CBT centers across the local government.

Professor Usoro further added that Hon. Charles instituted the Trust Fund to reposition education as a true instrument of human capital development and charged the beneficiaries to take the opportunity seriously and ensure they put in their maximum best to succeed in their education pursuit.

In a keynote address to the beneficiaries, Pastor Ebong Eno stressed that they have no excuse to fail, but rather, they should resolve to utilise the opportunity grace has offered them through the Government of Nsit Ubium under Hon. Charles to succeed.

Pastor Ebong Eno tasked them to set goals, prefer discipline to comfort, stay focused on their academics, reject failure vehemently and choose their friends wisely and never allow friends to choose them so they don’t fall for negative peer pressure and derail their future.

In his remarks at the occasion, the Commissioner for Education, Professor Ubong Umoh commended the council boss for his vision, describing his gesture as akin to the proverbial mustard seed that will grow and manifest several great destinies.

Professor Umoh who tasked the beneficiaries to starve their distractions and feed their focus, described education as the greatest human capital investment which confers one with the freedom to become whatsoever he desires to be and the only social equaliser that neutralises the demarcation between children of the privileged and the commoner.

The Education Commissioner hailed Pastor Umo Eno for the ARISE Agenda which he noted, sets a clear path on how the state should run, and pledged the commitment of the Ministry to support every positive initiative that will consolidate the vision of the governor.

Delivering his address, Hon. Alfred Charles lauded Governor Eno, explaining that the desire to align with his ARISE Agenda inspired the decision to institutionalise the Education Trust Fund which he said has been passed into law and would outlive his administration.

He said the education grant is not a gift but an investment in the people, in the future and the long-term prosperity of Nsit Ubium Local Government Area which is put in place to ensure financial hardship doesn’t deny any student the opportunity to rise through learning.

Hon. Charles thanked the BoT for the great support and said he remains committed to expanding the programme, ensuring its sustainability and having it become the most impactful educational support initiative which will also cover Primary Schools and vocational skills acquisition in Akwa Ibom State.

He revealed that the grant covers the sciences and humanities – Law, engineering, medicine and surgery, among other professional disciplines and remain accessible to all citizens of Nsit Ubium who aspire to attain educational heights.

On her part, the wife of the Nsit Ubium Council Boss Mrs Imaobong Alfred Charles tasked the beneficiaries to utilise the opportunity offered by the grant to acquire a good education which she maintained is a tool for their liberation from fear, low self-esteem, poverty, ignorance and, would help them impact positively on society.

On behalf of the beneficiaries, Rejoice Monday Friday thanked the Nsit Ubium Council Boss for the kind initiative and pledged that they will not allow the funds invested in them to be wasted.

Goodwill messages were delivered by prominent Nsit Ubium leaders including Otuekong Emmanuel Ibiok, the Clan Head of Ubium, Etebom Ukpong Udoewa and the Secretary of the BoT, Mr Owoidoho Ibiok.
