It took me 8 years to produce drug for treatment of diabetic ulcer – Dr Otiko

The FrontierThe FrontierJanuary 17, 2024 4192 Minutes read0

•Dr Otiko

The United States of America (USA) based Nigerian Medical Doctor, Christopher Ayo Otiko, who discovered the drug called TETRACYTE for the treatment of diabetic ulcer, has revealed how many years it took him to produce the drug.

According to him, it took him between the years 2008 and 2016 for the process of the discovery of the drug to be completed.

At a media interaction in Abuja today, where he formally introduced the drug to Nigerians, Dr. Otiko, expressed his determination at ensuring that many Nigerians benefit from his drug that has been internationally acclaimed as being ten times more effective than others in circulation, reports Daily Independent.

Dr. Otiko, who is currently in Nigeria meeting with some government agencies and parastatals on the need for partnership and collaboration, expressed great satisfaction with the responses he has been receiving from the various meetings and engagements so far.

Dr Otiko, a Podiatric Specialist, who has nearly 20 years of medical experience as a foot and ankle surgeon, disclosed that “from our various engagements and meetings with Nigerians so far, the responses we have been getting are very positive and encouraging. We are impressed.

According to the Chief Executive Officer and Executive Medical Director, ViaDerma Inc, “in terms of pricing (of the drug), it is going to be affordable. It is not all about the money at this point. I can use the money that I make in the United States to subsidize the cost so that almost everybody in Nigeria can afford it.”

The Medical Doctor has nearly 20 years of medical experience as a foot and ankle surgeon, treating such conditions as life threatening burns among others, Board Certified in the prevention and treatment of Diabetic wounds.

Otiko has already met with top officials of the Defence Headquarters, Abuja during which he had what he called, “fruitful discussions” with the medical experts there.

The medical doctor expressed the firm belief that troops of the federal government in the North East and other parts of the country, where there are conflicts, would benefit tremendously from the drug.

The drug has been medically certified as the world’s most potent drug for the treatment of diabetic ulcer, according to the Drugs Agency in the United States as it “heals ten times faster than any available drug for the treatment of diabetic ulcer and guide against amputation”.

The drug also heals all kinds of wounds and burns. It has already been used and proven to be a success on some cases in Nigeria.
