JUST IN: ADC sacks chairman over alleged anti-party activities

The FrontierThe FrontierFebruary 10, 2026 3145 Minutes read0

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) has sacked the Bauchi State chapter chairman, Mallam Hassan Haruna, for alleged anti- party activities and factionalising of the party.

Speaking in a press briefing held at the NUJ Secretariat today, the acting chairman, Alhaji Mahmood Hassan Tabla, explained that the former chairman was removed due to anti-party activities, and a court gave him the mandate to replace him as his deputy in line with provisions of the constitution.

He promised to act in line with the provisions of the ADC and the Nigerian Constitution and work with guidelines from the National Executives of the ADC to ensure that the party was successful in the 2027 Election, reports Daily Independent.

“You may recall that the Chairmen of the ADC in the 20 Local Governments of Bauchi State in exercise of their powers under the ADC Constitution set up a Disciplinary Committee and sent a formal query containing allegations against the former State Chairman Mallam Hassan Haruna where they accused him of anti-party activities and parallelization (causing a faction) in the Wards and Local Government levels by recognizing different sets of party executives and other infractions contrary to ARTICLE 15 (A) of the ADC Constitution,” he said.

“The former State Chairman refused to respond to the Query and the Disciplinary Committee recommended his Suspension from Office which the Local Government Chairmen approved and accordingly announced his suspension pursuant to their powers as provided in ARTICLE 14 (B) and ARTICLE 15 (B). The Disciplinary Committee and the Local Government Executives reminded the suspended State Chairman of his right to Appeal against the decision within 14 days in line with ARTICLE 15 (D) of the ADC Constitution.

“Rather than defending himself against the allegations or exercising his right of appeal against the decision to suspend him, the suspended Chairman Mallam Hassan Haruna caused a PRESS RELEASE dated 18 January. 2026 and convened a meeting on 19 January 2026, where they released the names of 20 people as Chairmen of the ADC in the 20 Local Governments of Bauchi State”.

“The same date of 19 January 2026 was the date His Excellency Atiku Abubakar (Wazirin Adamawa), and the ADC National Chairman Senator David Mark received in audience a delegation of the Bauchi State Stakeholders. You can verify it from the Facebook and X(Twitter) postings by His Excellency Atiku Abubakar (Wazirin Adamawa) himself”.

“After the expiration of the 14 days open for Appeal, the Local Government Executives, in collaboration with their Ward Executives, further resolved and issued CIRCULAR No. BA/01/003/2026, which removed Mallam Hassan Haruna from office as State Chairman of the ADC and directed me as his Deputy to take over as Acting Chairman of the Party.

“The Ward and Local Government executives alleged that the Press Release dated 18th January, 2026 by the suspended Chairman and his utterances of calling them “BANDITS”, “HIRED AGENTS were highly defamatory of their character and further attempts to announce a New Secretary and new Set of Local Government Chairmen as an infringement of not only the ADC Constitution but the rules of engagement under the Freedom of Association provided by the 1999 Constitution of Nigeria. They removed him as State Chairman and also sued him in the Bauchi State High Court together with the 20 names in the 18th January, 2026 Press Release.

“The Bauchi State High Court has on the 4th February, 2026 issued an Order of Interim Injunction restraining them from parading themselves as ADC Executives and adjourned for further hearing to 19 February, 2026. A copy of the Court Order in Suit No. BA/38/2026 is available for sighting”, he said.

The ADC Acting Chairman stated that in view of the recent happenings, he wished to formally inform the public of his assumption of duty as the Bauchi State acting Chairman of the party with effect from February 10, 2026, till the resolution of the Court Case and/or holding of a valid Congress electing new executives of the Party in line with the Constitution.

According to him, “My decision to assume office is further necessitated by the rejection of efforts of the National Executives to intervene and ensure sanity and constitutional compliance in running the affairs of the ADC, which the removed former Chairman, Mallam Hassan Haruna, is not interested in pursuing, especially with radio remarks from some of his accomplices”.

“You may wish to know that few weeks ago the National Leadership of our Party convened a Bauchi State Stakeholders Meeting in Abuja led by Alhaji Adamu Maina Waziri and Alhaji Kashim Imam who sought to broker peace. But rather than abiding by the resolutions at the meeting, the narratives fed to ADC Members by some people were totally misleading and provocative.

“All hope was not lost as the National Headquarters of the Party has approved the constitution of a Team to pursue the membership drive and party expansion. Membership of the Team is based on a standard Template of persons eligible to be members, which includes stakeholders like former Governors, Senators, Ambassadors, Military Generals, and other notable captains of industry.

“With new personalities joining the ADC in Bauchi State daily, I will very soon holistically identify all those that qualify and convene the Meeting at an appropriate time. I plead for your cooperation to ensure the mandate of the Team is discharged in good time. I hope all eligible Members will participate fully as soon as the date and time are announced in due course.

“Let me remind all and sundry that our Party ADC is now at peace and belongs to all interested in genuine partisan democracy. Those who join are enjoined to do so as our membership cards will be issued, there will be a level playing ground for all interested in voting or being voted for.

“I will work closely with our National Leadership and elders, the Stakeholders in Bauchi State, and teeming members and supporters of the ADC. I thank the various Security Agencies in Bauchi State for their cooperation, and I assure them we shall work together in maintaining the desired peace. Members of the Press are also welcome anytime, and we appreciate your various contributions.”
