Kaduna governor reshuffles cabinet, appoints 2 new commissioners

The FrontierThe FrontierMay 22, 2025 2712 Minutes read0

•Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State

Kaduna State governor, Senator Uba Sani, has reshuffled his cabinet, making key changes in the Ministries of Education, Information, and Youth Development to strengthen his administration.

In the reshuffle, Professor Abubakar Sani Sambo has been appointed as the new Commissioner of Education, while the outgoing Education Commissioner, Professor Sani Bello, has been redeployed to head the newly created Ministry of Information, reports The Guardian.

Additionally, Barrister Gloria Ibrahim has been named Commissioner for Youth Development.

The appointments take effect immediately, according to a statement from the governor’s spokesman, Ibraheem Musa, released last night.

Professor Sambo, a seasoned academic and administrator, has a distinguished career. He is a recipient of the National Productivity Order of Merit (1997) and Officer of the Order of the Niger (2000). His previous roles include Vice Chancellor of Kaduna State University (2004), Vice Chancellor of Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University, Bauchi (1995–2004), and Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic) at Usmanu Dan Fodio University, Sokoto (1990–1994). From 2005 to 2012, he served as Director General of the Energy Commission of Nigeria, and in 2011 was appointed Special Adviser to the President on Energy.

Professor Sambo has also served on various high-level panels and committees nationally and internationally, including as Chairman of the Nigerian Committee for Partnership with Brazil on Energy (2007–2008), member of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund Standing Committee on Research and Development (2020), member of the ECOWAS Regional Center for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (ECREEE) Consultation Committee (2021), and member of the African Union High Level Panel on Emerging Technologies (2022).

Barrister Gloria Ibrahim, the new Commissioner for Youth Development, is a legal practitioner and mediator. Prior to her appointment, she was Principal Legal Practitioner at Glownom Legal Consult in Kaduna. She holds an LL.B from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, and certificates in Negotiation and Mediation from DICON Consulting, Empowerment and Management, Kaduna. Ibrahim is a member of the Association of Professional Negotiators and Mediators (APNM), Child Protection Network (CPN), Nigerian Bar Association (NBA), and International Federation of Women Lawyers (FIDA).

According to Ibraheem Musa, Governor Sani expects Professor Sambo to revitalise the Education Ministry by advancing the administration’s priorities of improving access to education, rehabilitating infrastructure, enhancing teacher capacity, harnessing ICT, promoting girl-child education, and strengthening school security.

“Governor Uba Sani expects Barrister Gloria Ibrahim to develop creative and implementable programs that will position the Youth Development Ministry as a leading centre for impactful youth initiatives,” Musa added.

Musa congratulated the new appointees and wished them success in their roles.
