Lagos taskforce arrests 15 minors, 12 adults for street begging

The FrontierThe FrontierDecember 18, 2024 2270 Minutes read0

No fewer than 27 individuals were arrested by the Lagos State Environmental Taskforce yesterday for engaging in street begging and causing public disturbances.

The state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed this in a statement, accompanied by a video shared on X.com today.

Wahab revealed that among those arrested were 15 minors, many of whom were apprehended amid the chaos of heavy traffic.

He wrote, “The Lagos State Environmental Taskforce continued its raid operation yesterday evening against persons constituting public nuisance across the metropolis.

“Major routes raided include Awolowo Way up to Falomo Roundabout, Ikoyi, and Ozumba Mbadiwe Avenue, along Lekki Road. This is in a bid to arrest and remove destitutes and miscreants causing public nuisance in these areas.

“27 persons, including 15 minors involved in the unlawful act of street begging amidst vehicular traffic/hold-ups, were apprehended during the operation.”

Wahab added that all the suspects would be transferred to appropriate government facilities in line with relevant laws.
