Nigerian lawyer’s name struck out from roll of legal practitioners

The FrontierThe FrontierAugust 15, 2024 4691 Minutes read0

The Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee of the Body of Benchers has issued a directive against Abikoye Opeyemi Timothy, a legal practitioner with Enrolment No. SCN034372, following the conclusion of a disciplinary case on December 6, 2017.

In line with the Committee’s findings, a formal notice has been disseminated to key judicial and legal authorities, including the Chief Justice of Nigeria, the President of the Court of Appeal, the Honourable Attorney-General of the Federation, and the Chief Judges of the Federal High Court, National Industrial Court, and High Court of the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja.

According to a post on NBA Blog sighted by The Frontier today, this notice also extends to the Grand Khadis of the Sharia Court of Appeal, the Presidents of Customary Courts of Appeal of the Federal Capital Territory, and the states of the Federation.

The directive mandates that the Chief Registrar of the Supreme Court strike off the name of Abikoye Opeyemi Timothy from the Roll of Legal Practitioners.

Additionally, Timothy is ordered to refund the sum of ₦2,359,500.00 (Two Million, Three Hundred and Fifty-Nine Thousand, Five Hundred Naira) to the petitioner.

This ruling was formalised on Tuesday, August 13, 2024, under the authority of Hon. Justice Dr Ishaq Bello, OFR, Chairman of the Legal Practitioners Disciplinary Committee.
