Nigerian singer Niniola Apata has sparked concern among fans after appearing noticeably slimmer in her first public appearance since announcing the death of her husband, Michael Ndika, two months ago.
The Afro-house star resurfaced in a recent video shared online earlier in July and yesterday, with many fans commenting on her significant weight loss and expressing concern over her well-being, reports Sunday PUNCH.
Although she appeared to be gradually returning to public life, fans said her new look reflected the emotional toll of her husband’s death.
In an Instagram Story yesterday, Niniola shared a throwback photograph of herself alongside a message recalling her late husband’s admiration for her appearance.
“Michael… Loved me thick.
“You always loved me to be thick,” she wrote.
In another emotional post, the singer reflected on the pain of losing her husband.
“You should be here…
“Here with me…
“Death visited me and tore me apart…
“Where do I start from?
“How do I navigate this new and unbelievable reality?” she wrote.
Many fans flooded social media with messages of support, encouraging the singer to remain strong while mourning her husband.
It was earlier reported in May that Niniola announced the death of her husband through a series of emotional posts on her Instagram Story.
“God took him,” she wrote in one post.
In another, she simply wrote, “My husband died.”
She later added, “God took him. 13 years. 13 fing years.”
Ndika was the Chief Executive Officer of NaijaReview, a multimedia platform focused on Afro-house and contemporary African music.
The circumstances surrounding his death were not disclosed.
Niniola, who has consistently kept her marriage out of the public eye, rose to prominence after competing in Project Fame West Africa in 2013 and later gained international recognition with her hit single, Maradona, in 2017.
