…donates N210 million for medical support at UUTH
Akwa Ibom State governor, Pastor Umo Eno, has described the immortalisation of his wife through the Patience Umo Eno Antenatal Complex at the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital as a perfect Valentine’s gift for him and his family.

Speaking at the commissioning of the complex at the UUTH premises, the governor said the gesture reflects Pastor Patience’s deep love for the family as a critical unit for societal development, which had informed her decision to establish her pet project, The Golden Initiative for All (GIFA).
He said the antenatal complex complements the government’s passion and dedication to reducing the infant mortality rate and ensuring that pregnant mothers receive the best antenatal care possible in the state.

The governor stated that his administration is working hard to reposition the Specialist Hospital to a standard that will drive medical tourism in the state, open up a medical corridor with a medical village, and build a complete mother-and-child hospital with doctors’ quarters and other facilities to promote medical tourism.
He noted that although UUTH is a federal institution, most of its beneficiaries are indigenes of Akwa Ibom State. He, therefore, announced a donation of N200 million to support medical services at the hospital, as well as N10 million for the health insurance of indigent patients.

Governor Eno appreciated the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Emem Bassey, a former Commissioner for Health in the state, for his transformational initiatives at the hospital and assured him of the government’s continuous support to enable him to do more.
He also assured that his administration would ensure continuous collaboration with the UUTH management and other medical stakeholders to actualise its development vision for the medical sector as expressed in the ARISE Agenda.

“Let me, on behalf of my family, express our deep and profound gratitude to you, the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Emem Bassey, and indeed the management and staff of the University of Uyo Teaching Hospital, for this huge honour you have done my family by naming and dedicating this antenatal complex in honour of my dearly departed wife and our immediate past First Lady, H.E. Pastor (Mrs.) Patience Umo Eno,” he said.
In her remarks, the Coordinator, Office of the First Lady, Lady Helen Eno Obareki, also appreciated the CMD and the management for the gesture, which, according to her, aligns with one of the thematic areas of GIFA—maternal healthcare.

Earlier, the Chief Medical Director, Prof. Bassey, appreciated the governor for his numerous contributions to the hospital and his commitment to transforming the state’s medical sector.
“Today, we are gathered to celebrate and immortalise a virtuous woman who was passionate about the less privileged and who impacted greatly on the lives of many in her capacities as a mother, wife, pastor, and First Lady of our state during her sojourn on this terrestrial realm.”

He noted that the complex comprises a furnished ward, private rooms, consulting rooms, call rooms, offices, a mini laboratory, a pharmacy, a medical records unit, and a family planning unit.
