PDP BoT, Wike meet behind closed doors

The FrontierThe FrontierSeptember 18, 2024 2940 Minutes read0

•FCT Minister Nyesom Wike

In a move believed to be aimed at reconciliation, the main opposition party, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Board of Trustees (BoT) yesterday met with Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Minister, Nyesom Wike, behind closed doors.

The FCT Minister has been at logger-heads with Rivers State governor Siminalayi Fubara, over control of party structure in the state, prompting the minister to say he will never support the governor again in his political life, reports Nigerian Tribune.

It will be recalled that the party’s governors had recently tagged the minister a “mole” in the party, a claim the minister rejected in totality.

However, the acting National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), IIiya Umar Damagum recently handed over the party’s structure in Rivers State to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike.

In Nigeria, state governors by tradition are the political leaders of their parties in their state, but the Damagum-led leadership recognised the congresses held by Wike’s loyalists.

With the action of the NWC, Wike has become the leader of the party in the state, contrary to the tradition of political parties.
