The South-West chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has disowned a purported press conference held in Ibadan yesterday, describing its organisers as “criminal impostors” with no link to the party.
In a statement, Zonal Publicity Secretary, Akinloye Oyeniyi, dismissed claims that the zone had condemned former Ekiti State governor, Ayodele Fayose, declared support for Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, and pledged loyalty to a Turaki-led National Working Committee. Oyeniyi said no such briefing took place, noting that the Zonal Chairman, Engr. Deji Doherty, was in Abuja attending the party’s 108th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting at the time.
“The claim of an Ibadan press conference is a barefaced lie. No zonal official authorised or attended such an event,” he stated.
He stressed that those behind the gathering are not recognised by any organ of the PDP, from ward to national level, and lack the legitimacy to speak for the South-West zone.
Describing the group as destabilising elements, Oyeniyi said their actions had failed, insisting that no amount of propaganda or media theatrics would confer legitimacy on them.
He reaffirmed the zone’s loyalty to the Abdulrahman Mohammed-led National Working Committee and the party’s national leadership, including Nyesom Wike, while urging the public and party members to disregard the alleged press conference.
According to him, all official communications of the PDP South-West will continue to emanate from recognised party structures under the leadership of Engr. Deji Doherty.
