Protesters under the aegis of Concerned Citizens were at the Igbinedion Education Centre to express their displeasure over the bullying incident that took place in the school.
Viral videos from the school showed some students being beaten, flogged and kicked by supposed senior students, reports The PUNCH.
The school management, in a statement, said the identified students have been suspended.
However, security was beefed up around the school to prevent the protesters from entering the premises.
When our correspondent visited the school on Monday, personnel of the Department of State Services were at the gate to confirm the identity of visitors before allowing them in.
The protesters said they were at the school to ensure that all the identified students in the video were expelled.
One of the protesters said, “We want to know the position of other students and how the school has investigated the issue.
“What happened at this school is not acceptable in our society and we must all rise up to condemn it.”
The protesters carried placards with various inscriptions and blocked the entrance gate to the school.
Some staff members of the school were seen attempting to explain to the protesters that the students had been expelled.
However, the top management staff of the school said that such an occurrence would not be allowed to happen in the school again.
“What happened is unfortunate, but the management of the school has taken action and such an occurrence will never happen again.”
It was earlier reported that the Edo State Ministry of Education condemned the violent act against a student of the Igbinedion Education Centre by two other students of the same school.
A disturbing video went viral on Friday in which two students took turns brutalising another student who was lying helpless on the floor.
In a statement released on Saturday by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Edith Ebomoyi, the ministry said such behaviour is completely unacceptable and runs contrary to the values of discipline, respect and safety which all educational institutions in Edo State are expected to uphold.
