PRP to Tinubu: You’ve failed to protect lives of Nigerians, resign now!

The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), has called on President Bola Tinubu to resign over the failure of the federal government to guarantee the safety and security of Nigerians.

Chairman of the party, Hakeem Baba-Ahmed in a statement today, said it was now clear that the president had failed in what he described as his foremost constitutional responsibility of protecting citizens from violent crime and insecurity.

According to him, insecurity has worsened across the country under Tinubu’s administration, with Nigerians from all walks of life increasingly becoming victims of criminal attacks.

“It is now beyond any doubt that President Bola Tinubu has failed woefully in discharging his prime responsibility as Nigerian President, which is to secure the Nigerian citizen,” he said.

The PRP chairman argued that threats to national security had expanded rather than diminished, stressing that no part of the country could now be considered safe.

The statement said: “From Generals to toddlers, from Bama Badagry, no Nigerian is safe under this leadership. It is no longer the case that only parts of the country had been virtually surrendered to criminals. Now no Nigerian in any part of the country is protected from rampant violent criminals who exploit our major weakness.

“School children have joined the long stretch of soft targets, and the nation appears to be at the point of accepting this situation as normal. We must not submit to weakness of leaders and the exploits of criminals.

“This is not how Nigerians should live. Our President has failed the nation, and there is no evidence that he can improve on his pathetic record. He has amassed all the power in the country around him, yet he has failed to use it to protect and defend Nigerians.

“In most other democracies, President Tinubu’s failure to respect the values of accountability and responsibility would not have been tolerated. Nigerians must rise to demand an end to this ineptitude and indifference. President Tinubu should resign, now”

Baba-Ahmed lamented that schoolchildren had joined the growing list of vulnerable targets of criminal groups, warning against normalising widespread insecurity and violence.

He accused the president of concentrating enormous powers around the presidency without effectively deploying them to protect lives and property.

The PRP chairman further argued that in many democratic societies, leaders facing similar circumstances would be compelled to take responsibility for governance failures.

He maintained that Nigerians who continue to face threats from violent criminals cannot afford to wait until the 2027 general elections before seeking a change in leadership.

According to him, there is nothing democratic about allowing what he described as incompetent leadership to remain in office while citizens continue to suffer the consequences of worsening insecurity.

Baba-Ahmed called on Nigerians to unite in demanding an end to what he termed ineptitude and indifference in the country’s leadership.
