•Protesters at RSIEC office this morning
Angry protesters today stormed the office of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), singing and chanting ‘Election must hold’.
The protesting youths say they were there to protect RSIEC from any attempt to truncate the process, reports Channels TV.
The protesters had defied the heavy rainfall in the state and had spread canopies, while singing and drumming, with one side of the road blocked.
In attendance at the venue were Edison Ehie, Chief of Staff to the Governor, Victor Oko-Jumbo, Speaker Pro-Fubara lawmakers, and Sokari Goodboy – member representing Ahoada West.
The protest was after the Rivers State governor, Siminalayi Fubara said he stormed the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC) at 1am today to stop the Rivers State Police Command from taking over the premises.
