ROMANCE GONE SOUR: My husband abandoned me on our wedding night to attend political meeting, I want our marriage dissolved

The FrontierThe FrontierMay 23, 2026 112 Minutes read0

A woman, Aderonke, has dragged her husband, Olamiposi, before Grade A Customary Court sitting at Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, accusing him of lack of love, neglect and battery.

Aderonke told the court that Olamiposi started displaying disaffection towards her from the first day of their marriage.

The plaintiff explained that the defendant displayed that his political ambition was of more importance to him than their relationship when he abandoned her on their wedding night to attend a political meeting, reports Saturday Tribune.

Aderonke stated that she waited in vain for his return that night, a supposed special occasion in which they should have consummated their marriage.

She further said that her husband was a brute and that he started beating her early in their relationship.

According to the plaintiff, the fourth time the defendant beat her, she was admitted in the hospital.

Aderonke added that Olamiposi made her life miserable, which she said prompted her decision to move out of her matrimonial home.

She explained that it had been six years since she had been living separately from her husband and that she wanted to move on with her life.

She, therefore, prayed the court to dissolve their wedlock.

Aderonke also pleaded for their children’s custody.

She, in addition, entreated the court to mandate her husband to be responsible for their children’s education and upkeep.

Olamiposi was absent in court even though he was served with the court summons.

Aderonke, while giving her testimony before the court, stated: “It dawned on me on the first day of our marriage that my husband had placed a lesser value on our relationship in comparison to his political ambition.

“I was waiting eagerly for the night to come on our wedding day, that my husband and I could consummate our marriage, but I ended up being disappointed.

“My husband abandoned me that night to attend a political meeting.

“I waited endlessly throughout the night for his return.

“He came back home the following morning and did not deem it fit to tender an apology.

“My husband is cruel and he is a difficult person to live with.

“There was never a time we both sat down to discuss or enjoy each other’s company.

“He always found faults in all that I did, and he started beating me very early in our marriage.

“He would descend on me with punches and refuse to stop until I hurt.

“The fourth time he beat me, I was rushed to the hospital and placed on admission for days.

“My husband made my life miserable throughout the years we lived together.

“I got fed up one day with his disaffection towards me and his neglect of me and moved out of his house.

“It has been six years since we have been living apart.

“Our marriage is blessed with a male and a female children who are in my custody.

“I pray this court to dissolve our wedlock and grant me custody of our children.

“I further entreat the court to direct my husband to be responsible for our children’s upkeep and give them N100,000 every month.

“He should give adequate attention to their feeding, education, and healthcare.

The president of the court, Mrs S.M. Akintayo, adjourned the case until July for defence and ordered that a fresh hearing notice be issued and served on the defendant.
