The FrontierThe FrontierMarch 17, 2025 2342 Minutes read0

About 200 councillorship candidates of the New Nigerian People’s Party (NNPP) who contested the local government polls in Kaduna alongside thousands of their supporters have defected to the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

The event which took place at the Social Democratic Party Secretariat in Kaduna, witnessed the mammoth crowd of the NNPP decampees, reports Nigerian Tribune.

According to the Chairman of the Coalition who led the decampees Engr. Muhammad Yusuf Jibril said, it became imperative to join the Party that can deliver the dividend of democracy to its citizens, and focus on the wellbeing of the masses.

“As the leader of the coalition, we are here to decamp from NNPP to SDP. As it is clear to everybody in this nation that the former Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai has decamped to SDP, so therefore, as youth we will join him to save Nigeria and our unity “

“Our candidates are up to 200 with about 10,000 followers,” he said.

In the same vein, the secretary of the Coalition, Hon. Hashim Kurfi said, ” we are here to join the SDP, as we consider it very important at this crucial time to join the party that can take us to a greater height “

“When things are happening, you have to observe and think ahead on the way forward, what you can do for your people, that is why the chairman and myself have decided to decamp to this party where already, our former Governor, Malam Nasir El-Rufai has already joined.

“As you can see everybody today is aware of the way things are happening, especially to the youth, no employment.

“This is the right time for people to come and join the movement for the progress of the people of Kaduna, and the entire Nigeria “

Hon. Engr. Abdullahi Mohammed Isa who spoke on behalf of the decamped members said, “today is a memorable day, a day that i can never forget, a day that we align with another party in order to extend our vision and to see the progress of our people”.

“We are optimistic that our great leader Malam Nasir El-Rufai will bring his wealth of experience once again to transform the party.

“The leadership style of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), has motivated us because the calibre of people in it, are people with dignity, the people that can protect the interest of Nigeria, the people that can be treated such as Malam Nasir El-Rufai. We can see how he transformed the State, with these great people in this Party there is hope come 2027”.
