•The suspects
The Kebbi State Police Command says it has arrested seven suspected bandits in intelligence-led operations targeting criminal networks in the Soda Forest axis and adjoining border communities of Bagudo Local Government Area.
According to the statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Bashir Usman, the suspects were arrested in separate operations along the Illo–Lolo Road and the Bakin Ruwa–Ka’oje axis following intensified security operations against banditry in the area.
The statement adds that preliminary investigations suggest that the suspects were allegedly involved in providing logistics support to criminal elements operating in forest hideouts.
It says investigations are ongoing to determine the suspects’ possible involvement in recent security breaches, including the attack that resulted in the killing of three Federal Road Safety Corps personnel, reports Daily Independent.
The Commissioner of Police, Umar M. Hadejia, described the arrests as a breakthrough in the fight against banditry and reaffirmed the Command’s commitment to sustaining operations against criminal elements across the state.
