Tinubu presides over FEC, swears in South East rep in National Assembly Service Commission

The FrontierThe FrontierJuly 31, 2025 1700 Minutes read0

•Nnanna Uzor Kalu

President Bola Tinubu has sworn in Uzor Kalu as a commissioner of the National Assembly Service Commission representing the South East zone.

Kalu took the oath of office and allegiance at 2 pm at the Council Chambers of the State House, Abuja, today, shortly before the commencement of the Federal Executive Council meeting, reports The PUNCH.

His confirmation by the Senate on May 20, followed the adoption of the Establishment and Public Service Committee’s report, with the Upper Chamber noting that an earlier petition against his nomination had been investigated and dismissed by the Ethics, Code of Conduct and Public Petitions Committee.

He joins the new cohort of commissioners inaugurated at the State House for a renewable five-year term on May 5, 2025.

Kalu, younger brother of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, former Abia State governor, is a former two-term member of the House of Representatives for Aba North/Aba South (5th and 6th National Assemblies).

The council also observed a minute’s silence in honour of former Minister of Police Affairs, Navy Captain Caleb Olubolade, who died on May 11, 2025, aged 70.

The council then proceeded into a closed-door session.
