TRAGEDY: Wife allegedly stabs husband to death 3 days after wedding

The FrontierThe FrontierNovember 25, 2025 2492 Minutes read0

•Late Abubakar Abdulkarim and wife Zainab

A newlywed groom, Abubakar Abdulkarim, popularly known as Dan Gaske, has allegedly been stabbed to death by his wife just three days after their wedding in Jibia town, Jibia Local Government Area of Katsina State.

The couple had tied the knot on Thursday, November 18, 2025, but the marital bliss came to a tragic end on Sunday afternoon when the incident occurred, reports Daily Trust.

Residents said the wife allegedly attacked the groom with a knife while he was asleep, inflicting a fatal wound on his neck.

A relative of the deceased, identified as Aminu Danladi, recounted his last moments with the groom before the tragic incident.

Danladi said he and some other family members were with the deceased on the morning of the fateful day, making plans for a family visit scheduled for later in the evening.

The groom, he said, then returned home to prepare for the engagement before news broke that he had been found dead in cold blood in his house.

Contrary to rumours circulating within the community, Aminu confirmed that the marriage was not forced, adding that the couple had maintained good relations prior to their wedding.

Sources revealed that the wife, said to be in her 20s and an indigene of Katsina metropolis, was introduced to the groom by his nephew, who was her classmate and friend at Government Girls Secondary School, Jibia.

The wife, identified as Zainab Muhammad, had reportedly been previously married and divorced, a fact that the groom and his family were allegedly unaware of.

Sources also said the groom was likely killed between 12 p.m. and 1 p.m. After the incident, the wife was said to have appeared confused and had gone to a neighbour’s house asking for food.

This unusual behaviour prompted the older women in the neighbourhood to suspect that something had happened between the newlyweds. When they followed her back home, they discovered the lifeless body of the groom and immediately alerted security operatives.

Police confirmed the incident and said an investigation is ongoing.

Police Public Relations Officer in Katsina, DSP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, in a statement yesterday, said, “On November 23rd, 2025, at about 1:30pm, a report was received at the Jibia Division that one Abdullahi (not his real name), a newly wedded groom, was found motionless in a pool of blood in his residence situated in Tashar Buja quarters, Jibia Local Government Area, Katsina State.

“Upon receipt of the report, detectives were quickly drafted to the scene, where the victim was found lying motionless in a pool of blood with a deep cut to his neck. The victim was taken to the nearest hospital for immediate medical attention; unfortunately, he was pronounced dead on arrival by the doctor on duty.

“One person is in custody, suspected to be in connection with the offence as investigation is underway to unravel the circumstances surrounding the unfortunate incident.

“The Commissioner of Police, Katsina State Command, CP Bello Shehu, assured the public of a diligent and thorough investigation into the matter and urged anyone with useful information to come forward and assist the investigation.”
