•Rinsola Babajide and late Diogo Jota
Nigeria’s Super Falcons forward, Rinsola Babajide has explained the reason behind her goal celebration during Nigeria’s 3-0 victory over Tunisia in their opening Group B match at the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Casablanca, Morocco yesterday.
Speaking to our correspondent after the game, Babajide said her goal celebration was a tribute to Liverpool’s Diogo Jota, who died in a car crash on Thursday, reports Channels TV.
“It was just like a tribute for Diogo Jota, the one that died, and for his brother. It was a signature celebration of his, and I just wanted to contribute and do something for him. He was one of my favourite players at Liverpool when I was there as well,” she said.
Nigeria face Botswana in their next group match on Thursday, July 10.
