Why I chose Bayer Leverkusen over English clubs – Victor Boniface

•Bayer Leverkusen striker Victor Boniface

Super Eagles forward Victor Boniface has opened up about his career decisions and preference for clubs with the right playing style, emphasising that he deliberately avoids teams that struggle or face excessive pressure.

Speaking in a podcast session posted on Saturday by Webek Studios, Boniface explained that throughout his professional journey, he has never played for a team that struggled significantly.

“No, me, I don’t think so,” he said when asked if he had experienced playing in a struggling side.

“Since I started my professional football career, every team I have played is like one or two. You see that we came first or we came second,” he added.

He went on to highlight how style of play and pressure levels influence his decisions when choosing a club.

“Before I made a transfer or before I go to a club, I always check what type of football they are playing. Is this going to suit my pattern? Is this a team that has too much pressure? Some players can’t play under pressure,” he said.

Boniface noted that he had other offers before joining Bayer Leverkusen after a strong season in Belgium, including options from England.

I had some decent deals coming from England. Good money, good everything. But I just don’t want to go to this type of team because… their style of play,” he said.

The striker also emphasised the importance of being in the right system to perform at his best.

“If you put me in a possession team, I will give you everything. But when I’m playing, you see the best of this guy. If I can go to a team, I will be like the number one,” he added.
