Winning AMVCA was a career defining moment – Ace film producer Ifeoluwa Fatogun

•Ifeoluwa Fatogun

Film producer, Ifeoluwa Fatogun, emerged as one of the standout voices in African cinema after winning the ‘Best Documentary’ category at the 11th Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards, for her role as the producer of the critically acclaimed project, ‘Dundun’, directed by Ebi Atawodi.

The documentary, which explores the cultural, spiritual, and historical significance of talking drums in Yoruba land, has resonated deeply with audiences across the continent, reports Saturday PUNCH.

Reflecting on her win, in a statement to our correspondent, Ifeoluwa said “African filmmaking is evolving. We are finally telling our stories in ways that are honest, rooted, and visually compelling. The world is watching us, but more importantly, we’re watching ourselves with new eyes.

“We didn’t want to make a documentary that just informed. We wanted to make something that felt; something that helped us remember.

“We have always had cinema in Africa; in our food, dances and processes. What’s happening now is that we are reclaiming the medium and the message.”

She added that the win marks a defining moment in her career. Having been involved in countless creative projects including music videos, commercials and other documentary films, she stated that she is set to be launched into the next phase of her creativity, diving deeper into the world of film production and Africa’s storytelling ecosystem.

The statement added that the documentary is set for screenings at various international festivals later this year.
