•Tinubu and Christopher Musa
The Oodua Youths Parliament (OYP), a socio-political group, has urged President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and leaders of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) to consider a change in the vice presidential ticket ahead of the 2027 general elections.
In a statement signed by its Speaker, Aare Abdulmajeed Oladimeji Oyeniyi, the group proposed that the Minister of Defence and former Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, be considered as a potential running mate.
The OYP acknowledged the contributions of Vice President Kashim Shettima, describing him as a key pillar of the administration who has played a role in stabilising the government since its inauguration, reports Daily Independent.
However, the group urged the vice president to step aside in what it described as the broader national interest, while encouraging President Tinubu to consider Musa’s security background as an asset at a time when Nigeria continues to grapple with terrorism, banditry and other violent crimes.
According to the statement, the vice presidential position should reflect national diversity while also strengthening ongoing security reforms. The group described Musa as widely respected and said his decades of military service could help reinforce efforts to tackle insecurity.
The OYP also argued that Musa’s religious background would send a positive signal about Nigeria’s commitment to religious tolerance and coexistence, despite persistent security challenges.
It added that Musa’s appointment as Defence Minister had generated favourable public sentiment and aligned with the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda, particularly in safeguarding lives and property.
The group reaffirmed its support for sustained inter-agency cooperation and a unified national security strategy, which it said remains essential for achieving long-term peace and stability.
