26-year-old native doctor nabbed for killing pregnant nurse

The FrontierThe FrontierFebruary 13, 2026 562 Minutes read0

The Anambra State Police Command has arrested a man identified as Chibunna Nwafor, aged 26, allegedly involved in the murder of a pregnant nurse in Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area of the state.

It was gathered that the suspect, also known as “Offonwadile”, who is said to be a native doctor, conspired with his gang members and allegedly murdered and mutilated the body of the nurse and took the remains to his shrine, reports The PUNCH.

Recall that the nurse was reportedly killed in July 2025 after her friend lured her to her house under the pretext of seeking medical treatment.

The friend was subsequently arrested by the police through community effort on July 29, 2025, while the native doctor, who is said to be the prime suspect, had been on the run.

But in a press statement today, the spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command said the prime suspect was arrested and taken into custody through sustained community collaboration and intelligence-driven efforts on February 11, 2026.

Ikenga said the suspect was apprehended in his hideout at Umueri community in Anambra East Local Government Area of the state as part of the Command’s ongoing investigation into the tragic incident.

He added that the Command had handed the suspect over to the police higher investigative formation for discreet investigative proceedings.

The statement read in part, “The Anambra State Police Command, through sustained community collaboration and intelligence-driven efforts, took into custody on February 11, 2026, one of the prime suspects in the gruesome murder of a pregnant nurse whose body was mutilated in Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area.

“The suspect, identified as Chibunna Nwafor (male), aged 26 years and also known as ‘Offonwadile,’ was apprehended in his hideout at Umueri Community as part of the Command’s ongoing investigation into the tragic incident.

“Meanwhile, the Command has handed the suspect over to the Police higher investigative formation for discreet investigative proceedings.

“Given the above, the Commissioner of Police, CP Ikioye Orutugu, while commending members of the community whose cooperation and timely information significantly contributed to this breakthrough, reiterates the Command’s commitment to ensuring that all individuals involved in this heinous crime are brought to justice.”

According to him, investigations are ongoing, and further updates will be provided as developments unfold.

It was earlier reported in July 2025 that the Anambra State Police Command arrested a suspect in connection with the murder and mutilation of a pregnant nurse’s body in the state, adding that mutilated human body parts were recovered at a native doctor’s shrine.

The suspect, identified as “Nwafor”, 24, was taken into custody for the crime in Ogbunike, Oyi Local Government Area of the state, while the police were searching for the prime suspect and other accomplices.

The spokesperson for the police command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement, confirmed the arrest and recovery of human parts at the shrine.

Ikenga said during interrogation, Nwafor revealed details of how they sold body parts to various native doctors in the area.
