Food scarcity: South East youths blame open grazing, banditry

The FrontierThe FrontierJune 24, 2024 2391 Minutes read0

Coalition of South East Youths leaders, COSEYL, today blamed the cause of food scarcity on open grazing and banditry in the country.

The President General of COSEYL, Goodluck Ibem, disclosed this to newsmen in Owerri, while commenting on the level of hunger in the country, reports Vanguard.

According to the group, “The Coalition of South East Youth Leaders, COSEYL, the apex sociopolitical youth group in the South East geopolitical zone is alarmed over the deliberate plot of some prominent Nigerians who in a bid to frustrate the efforts of the federal government led by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu are sponsoring terrorism, banditry, killing of farmers in their farmlands and homes and all forms of vices in other to ensure that Nigerian do not have food to buy in the market.

“The architects of this wicked schemes should also know that when the eyes are crying, the nose also joins the eyes to cry. Their families and loves ones will not be affected by their evil schemes.

“This wicked schemes and shenanigans by this unpatriotic persons who should be working for the good of the nation is very unfortunate. These persons are working behind the scene just to discredit the good efforts of President Bola Tinubu’s administration.

“President Tinubu should deploy all security agencies in the nation to stamp-out terrorists who have made it difficult for farmers to go to farm and do their work. The issue of hunger and shortage of food supply can not be solved if banditry, open grazing and terrorism is not properly addressed. The FG should provide ranches for livestock farming in order to stop destruction of farm produce by herders who feed their cattles with crops and farm produce meant for human consumption.”

The current prices of food items in the market are exorbitant and the common man is finding it difficult to feed their families. All this is happening because some unpatriotic persons created insecurity in the nation is other to stop farmers from going to farm. We therefore call on President Tinubu to deploy the best modern security equipments to stamp-out these terrorists and their sponsors who are hell-bent on making Nigerians suffer untold hardship and hunger,” he said.
