Popular Nigerian content creator Yemisi Odusanya, widely known as Sisi Yemmie, has revealed the mental health challenges she faced during her last pregnancy.

Speaking on the “I Said What I Said” podcast, the blogger shared that she chose not to publicise this pregnancy online due to its impact on her mental well-being and the fear of receiving negative comments.

Sisi Yemmie, who had planned to stop having children after her third, described the pregnancy as unplanned.

She recounted how she cried almost every day, feeling trapped and overwhelmed.

“I was one of those people who thought two kids, one boy and one girl, was perfect. When the third came, I thought, okay, everyone has that extra one. But when the fourth came, I felt like I was falling into a hole with no escape,” she said.

Despite the challenges, Sisi Yemmie emphasised the importance of fighting for one’s dreams.

“You have to actively fight for your dreams and for yourself,” she stated, adding that she didn’t want to view motherhood as an endless race. She is now living her wildest dreams, creating content with purpose and not just for the sake of it.

Since giving birth, Sisi Yemmie has found a balance between her career and motherhood, thanks to a division of labour that eases her stress. She continues to chase her dreams while caring for her children. However, she is still navigating the implications of having her children’s faces in the public eye.

“I am researching to see the effect of children being in public,” she noted, acknowledging that her daughter already participates in advertisements.

Sisi Yemmie is currently working on a cookbook featuring classic Nigerian recipes, which she aims to make as authentic as possible. She humorously mentioned that if her children were in charge of feeding the family, it would be “bread and tea throughout,” highlighting the need for a structured approach to family meals.

Sisi Yemmie is renowned for her food and lifestyle blog, SisiYemmieTV, where she shares recipe videos, parenting tips, and lifestyle content. She has been profiled by CNN Africa and praised by Prince Charles for her brilliant YouTube channel. In 2018, she was listed among women who have struck social media gold.
