FCTA begins demolition of 50 illegal duplexes, bungalows in Abuja

The FrontierThe FrontierOctober 17, 2024 2471 Minutes read0

The Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) has begun the demolition of 50 illegally constructed duplexes and bungalows in Sabon Lugbe, Abuja.

Mr Mukhtar Galadima, the Director of the Department of Development Control, led the demolition exercise today, emphasising that the structures had been built by land grabbers without the necessary approvals from the appropriate authorities, reports Nigerian Tribune.

Galadima pointed out that the southwest area of Sabon Lugbe is part of the Phase 5 District of the Federal Capital City (FCC).

He cautioned potential buyers against purchasing properties without verifying their legality, stating, “We have warned that we would take action against land grabbers in the area.”

The demolition effort began with the removal of 10 buildings, with Galadima noting, “Tomorrow, we are coming back in full swing.

“We will make sure that all illegal structures, close to 50 duplexes and bungalows, are brought down.”

He identified specific areas where land grabbers have been operating, including Idu Train Station, which is now part of Gosa and Kyami, Apo Tarfi, and Lugbe.

The director firmly stated that illegal developments will not be tolerated in the capital city, adding that land grabbers have misled innocent residents by claiming that these areas would be integrated into Phase 5 of the FCC.

He clarified, “There is nothing like integration. Illegality is illegality, and we will continue to remove every illegal structure in the FCT.”
