US election: Harris postpones speech as disappointed supporters leave watch party

The FrontierThe FrontierNovember 6, 2024 4241 Minutes read0

•Disappointed Harris’ supporters leaving the watch party venue

Some supporters of Vice President Kamala Harris were seen leaving her election night watch party at Howard University in Washington, D.C. early today.

This development followed an announcement that the Democratic vice-presidential candidate would not be speaking until the following day.

The co-chair of Harris’ campaign, Cedric Richmond, announced early this morning that Vice President Harris would not address supporters at Howard University as the campaign awaited additional election results.

He said, “We still have votes to count. We still have states that have not been called yet. We will continue overnight to fight to make sure that every vote is counted. That every voice has spoken. So you won’t hear from the vice president tonight. But you will hear from her tomorrow.”

Shortly afterward, the vice president’s office announced a “lid,” signalling that no further public appearances were expected. The disappointed attendees at Howard University were then advised to begin leaving the venue.

Despite this, many supporters held out hope for a possible Harris victory, even as former President Trump appeared to be gaining ground, with Decision Desk HQ projecting him as the 47th President of the United States.
