Labour Party lawmaker kidnapped on his way home

Gunmen last night abducted the member, representing Onitsha 1 North Constituency in the Anambra State House of Assembly, Hon. Justice Azuka.

It was gathered that Hon. Azuka, was abducted while returning home at Ugwunaobankpa road, Inland Town Onitsha, reports Vanguard.

The abducted lawmaker is a chieftain of Labour Party, LP, who regained his mandate after court sacked the Peoples Democratic Party, Hon. Douglas Egbuna, who was previously announced winner of the 2023 poll.

Azuka was said to have been kidnapped after he was double-crossed at gun point and was quickly whisked away in an operation that did not take up to five minutes at the Ugwunaobamkpa road.

A close associate to the lawmaker who pleaded anonymity, said since the lawmaker’s abduction, his whereabouts have remained unknown and his abductors have not made any contact with members of his immediate family, relations or friends.

However, details surrounding his abduction remain sketchy, but residents have expressed shock over his abduction, describing the lawmaker as a very peaceful and quiet person that hardly makes trouble and appealed for his urgent release.

A resident who gave his name as Okwuchukwu Odili, described the abducted lawmaker as a grassroot politician who relates freely with his constituents, unlike others who after their election under Labour Party have disappeared and are hardly in touch with the electorates in their constituency.

Spokesman for the Anambra State Police Command, Tochukwu Ikenga, a Superintendent of Police, while confirming the incident said efforts were on to rescue the abducted lawmaker.

According to Ikenga, “Anambra Police Command, has activated operational plans for the possible rescue and arrest of the kidnappers of Mr.Justice Azuka, the honourable State House of Assembly member representing Onitsha North 1 Constituency.”

“The report of the sad event revealed that on 24/12/2024 by 9:20pm, while returning home at Ugwunaobamkpa road, he was abducted by yet unidentified persons.

“The Command is already working on some clues for possible rescue and arrest of the kidnappers. Further development shall be communicated”.
