Abuja Resident Doctors begin indefinite strike

Resident doctors in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) have begun an indefinite strike over what they described as the authorities’ failure to address their demands.

In a statement signed by the President of the association in the FCT, George Ebong, it said the decision was reached after its emergency general meeting held yesterday.

Ebong said the strike would remain in force until the government showed a genuine commitment to the welfare of doctors and the health of FCT residents, reports Channels TV.

The indefinite strike action comes hours after the National Association of Resident Doctors (NARD) suspended its one-week warning strike.

The national body had embarked on a five-day warning strike on September 12, 2025.

However, it said, following the commitment of the federal government to address the issues outlined in its strike communiqué, as well as the commencement of payment of the 2025 MRTF owed to its members, the doctors resolved to suspend the strike action.

This, they said, was to allow the government a two-week window to fully implement the demands contained in the communiqué.
