A-list entertainer Charly Boy steals show with giant box gift at former President Obasanjo’s 89th birthday celebration

The FrontierThe FrontierMarch 7, 2026 1562 Minutes read0

Veteran singer, Charly Boy, presented former President Olusegun Obasanjo with a large gift box during the elder statesman’s 89th birthday celebration in Abeokuta, Ogun State.

Obasanjo marked his 89th birthday on Thursday, March 5, 2026.

In a post shared on his Instagram page, the entertainer documented his entrance at the event held at the Olusegun Obasanjo Presidential Library.

Dressed in a formal suit, Charly Boy, 75, was seen carrying a large gold gift box balanced on his head in a dramatic manner as he made his way toward the former president.

When he reached the high table where Obasanjo was seated, he gently placed the box down.

The former president then opened the package, revealing a towel with the inscription “Baba 89 from Charly Boy”.

After the presentation, the pair exchanged a handshake, with Obasanjo going a step further by planting a kiss on the singer’s head.

In the caption accompanying the post, Charly Boy spoke about his growing admiration for the former Nigerian leader, saying their relationship has strengthened over time.

The singer also reflected on a personal aspect of their connection, recalling that his late father had once been friends with Obasanjo.

“Lately, I have found myself growing fond of Baba, His Excellency Chief Olusegun Obasanjo. It’s no joke. Baba is truly a man of many parts. It feels like our relationship has moved to another level, the kind that warms my heart and always makes him smile whenever he sees me,” he wrote.

“Sometimes I even feel as though my late father, who was Baba’s old friend, is still speaking to me through him. If I try to explain it properly, it might sound strange, but deep down the feeling is real.

“Today I attended Baba’s birthday celebration. The tables were full. People were laughing. Influential men and women were exchanging greetings. There was plenty of good food. The whole hall was bubbling with life. Then Baba walked in. As Chief Olusegun Obasanjo stepped inside, the atmosphere changed. Respect filled the room. People stood up, glasses were raised, and smiles spread across faces.

“The man whose life has filled many pages of history took his seat at the high table like the true elder that he is. Then it was my turn. I carried my birthday gift, but not in the usual way. I balanced it firmly on my head, village-boy style. Step by step, I walked to the high table. No rush. Just respect, rhythm, and a little drama, the way Charly Boy does it.

“When I reached Baba, I presented the gift. It was a simple moment, but the love, warmth, and joy in it were profound. Then something happened that even surprised me. Baba planted a big kiss on my head, and the hall burst into laughter.

“Because sometimes celebrations are not really about cake, champagne, or long speeches. Sometimes they are about honour, honouring a life that has seen storms, battles, and history, yet still stands strong like an iroko tree.”
