Davido’s FIFA World Cup return excites fans, highlights Afrobeats’ global rise

The excitement among fans of Nigerian music star, Davido, has continued to grow following FIFA’s announcement that he will be one of the headline performers at the World Cup 2026 Countdown Concert scheduled to hold in Los Angeles on June 10.

FIFA confirmed the development in a statement released on Tuesday, revealing that the Los Angeles concert will feature Davido alongside Major Lazer, the electronic music project led by Diplo. The football governing body also noted that additional performers would be announced in the coming weeks.

The concert is part of FIFA’s first-ever synchronised live concert series across the tournament’s host nations – the United States, Canada and Mexico as preparations intensify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

For many fans, the announcement came as a confirmation of what Davido had earlier hinted at during a livestream with Davreltv. During the session, the award-winning singer disclosed that he would be involved in another FIFA World Cup event, having previously performed at a World Cup-related programme. At the time, many followers treated the statement as speculation, but FIFA’s official confirmation has now silenced doubts.

The development has sparked widespread reactions on social media, with fans celebrating what they describe as Davido’s consistent presence on some of the world’s biggest stages. Many supporters jokingly referred to him as the “king of involve me,” noting that he often appears at major international events and entertainment showcases.

Adding to the excitement is the growing popularity of the official FIFA soundtrack, “No Place Like Home,” which features Davido alongside Major Lazer and Nelly Furtado. Fans have particularly praised Davido’s contribution to the song, describing his verse as one of the standout moments of the track.

Beyond the celebration of Davido’s latest achievement, the announcement has also renewed conversations about the global influence of Afrobeats.

Despite Nigeria’s failure to qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, Nigerian artistes have continued to secure prominent roles at football’s biggest event.

Over the years, Afrobeats stars including Burna Boy, Rema, Ayra Starr and Davido have all been linked with FIFA World Cup performances and projects, underscoring the genre’s growing international appeal.

Industry observers say the increasing presence of Nigerian artistes on global platforms reflects how Afrobeats has evolved from a regional sound into a major cultural export. As the countdown to the 2026 FIFA World Cup continues, Davido’s latest FIFA appearance further reinforces the strong relationship between African music and the global football audience.

With fans already counting down to June 10, expectations remain high for what promises to be another landmark moment for both Davido and Nigerian music on the world stage.
