The Obi/Kwankwaso (OK) Movement has condemned the Federal High Court ruling nullifying the registration of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), describing the decision as a development it had long anticipated.
National Coordinator of the movement, John Ughulu, said the group was not surprised by the court’s decision and vowed that the affected political forces would challenge the ruling through appropriate legal channels, reports The Nation.
Ughulu, in a reaction to the court’s pronouncement, said the development was part of a pattern that had become evident in recent political events.
“We saw it coming. We know where they are going, and I believe the legal team is ready to respond to whatever measures the government is planning,” he said.
According to him, the movement had earlier raised concerns over what it described as attempts to undermine opposition political platforms and therefore was not taken unawares by the court’s decision.
“We understood what was happening and truly saw it coming. When they tried to derail the ADC and all those things, we condemned it then. We knew it was a test of the waters, and now we have seen it happen,” he stated.
The OK Movement coordinator maintained that the ruling would not intimidate members of the movement and other opposition elements.
“Our prediction was correct. We will engage with the leaders of the party and respond accordingly. We are not frightened,” he added.
Ughulu said the movement would formally issue a statement condemning the judgment and expressed confidence that the decision would eventually be overturned.
“As the National Coordinator of the OK Movement, I will issue a statement today condemning this decision, and that is where we will start from.
“I strongly believe that this decision will be reversed because Nigerians will not support it,” he said.
The Federal High Court had reportedly voided the registration of the NDC, a development that has sparked reactions from opposition groups and political stakeholders across the country.
