•Sowore and Davido
The presidential candidate of the African Alliance Congress (AAC), and Nigerian activist Omoyele Sowore, has criticised Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, over his recent meeting with the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, following the Osun State governorship election.
Davido and his uncle, Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, visited Wike at his residence in Abuja yesterday, reports The Guardian.
A 16-second video circulating on social media showed Davido engaging in a light conversation with the FCT minister, during which they reportedly discussed the outcome of Saturday’s governorship election in Osun State.
Reacting to the video in a post on his X handle, Sowore described Davido and other political figures as “political hustlers,” questioning why the singer appeared to be paying respect to Wike despite reports of deadly violence during the election period.
Sowore wrote that political actors often deceive the public while privately pursuing shared interests, alleging that their public disagreements and outrage were largely political posturing.
“Here is the loud and lousy @davido genuflecting before Nyesom Wike @GovWike, barely a week after their ‘agreement is agreement’ election politics in Osun, a contest marred by deadly violence and the loss of scores of lives,” he said.
He further accused political actors of being “dissemblers, gerrymanderers, carpetbaggers, political hustlers and lying machines,” insisting that their interests ultimately converge regardless of their public positions.
Reports had emerged that supporters of both the All Progressives Congress (APC) and the Accord Party were killed in separate incidents before and during last Saturday’s governorship election in Osun State.
