Actress Omowunmi Dada recounts near-death experience after contracting sepsis on movie set

Nigerian actress, Dada Omowunmi, has shared her experience of contracting sepsis while working on a film project in Oyo State.

Sepsis is a life-threatening condition that occurs when the body’s immune system overreacts to an infection. It’s also known as septicemia, which is the medical term for blood poisoning.

Dada’s story comes after a fellow actress, Jemima Osunde, revealed her own health struggles stemming from contaminated food consumed on set in Ibadan, reports Saturday PUNCH.

Responding to Osunde’s post on X.com yesterday, Dada wrote, “My dear… I got sepsis on a project in Oyo, they literally left me in the hotel.

“Thank God my family and management got a car to take me to a hospital in Ibadan. I got there unconscious. It was sepsis and I was lucky to be alive.”

Omowunmi added that the production company, despite her critical condition, requested a full refund.

She added, “Sameeee! I got myself to Lagos and to the hospital. Paid for my treatment myself. They were sending me messages about a refund. By the time my team sent a response with all the clauses they had breached in the contract, they went quiet. Talking about a refund when you haven’t even asked if I’ve recovered.”

It was earlier reported on Thursday that Osunde opened up on a life-altering health battle following an incident when she ate contaminated food on set three years ago.

She revealed that she got Helicobacter pylori, a type of bacteria that infects the stomach, after eating the food provided on set in Ibadan Oyo state, and has been battling with gastroesophageal reflux disease since then.
