Residents of Ila-Orangun in Osun State abandoned their homes after four teenagers allegedly wrote the words “Bandit Today Today” on a residential building, triggering fear of a possible attack.

The inscription appeared on a house wall in the Ajegunle area, causing widespread panic among the community, reports The Nation.

Police operatives later arrested the four teenagers allegedly responsible for the act.

Confirming the incident, the Osun State Police Command stated that the suspects were taken into custody for conspiracy, conduct likely to cause a breach of peace, and public disturbance. The statement was signed by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi.

He said, Idris Abubakar(16yrs), Abubakar Audu, Ahmed Abubakar(19yrs) and Mohammed Omotayo(16yrs) were arrested in connection with the incident.

‎Ojelabi stated that “As we know that prevention is better and lesser than cure, the Osun State Police Command in its proactive/preventive measure has arrested the above named suspects involved in a case of Conspiracy and conduct likely to cause breach of peace.

“On 18th February 2026, an inscription “BANDIT TODAY TODAY” was written on the wall of the complainant around Ajegunle area of Ila-Orangun which made members of the public in the area and its environs to be in panic; while some of them deserted the community as they envisaged banditry attack.

“Immediately, the report was received, operatives of State Intelligence Department (SID) swung into action and through diligent Intel analysis, four (4) suspects who are based in Ila-Orangun axis were arrested.”

He explained that preliminary investigation revealed that the Idris made the write-up and he admitted being the person that committed the act with the claim that he did it out of ignorance.

“The Command advise the members of the public to shun any act capable of causing panic/apprehension in Osun State and urges the residence to go about their lawful businesses. Police remain focus in maintaining the peace which Osun State has always been known for.”
