Charterhouse Lagos celebrates a major milestone as it opens its new boarding house and welcomes the first cohort of secondary pupils.

It is a new chapter for the first British independent school in Lagos.

Pupils, parents, and staff were present ahead of the 2025/26 academic year. There was traditional music and dance, creating an atmosphere of joy and anticipation on the school’s expansive campus.

The event coincided with Charterhouse Lagos’ first anniversary, following launch of its primary school last September.

The dual celebration highlighted how far the school has come, from construction to establishing itself as a world-class centre for learning.

Director of Education, John Todd, reflected shared a timeline of the school’s development and acknowledged the effort behind its success.

“Thank you for being part of this journey,” he said.

“This school was built on a vision to deliver the best of British education in Lagos, and today’s opening of our boarding house shows just how much we have achieved together in a short time. We are not only creating an outstanding place of learning but also a home where students can be safe, supported, and inspired,” he said.

Mark Healy, new Head of Secondary, said: “I am proud to be founding Head of Secondary at Charterhouse Lagos. My experience in leading secondary schools in Doha has prepared me for this opportunity to provide world-class education here in Lagos.”

Parents and pupils toured the facilities, including state-of-the-art classrooms, a fully resourced library, and specialist science laboratories. The day concluded with a community barbecue, offering families the chance to connect and celebrate together.

Charterhouse Lagos is committed to offering an academically selective British curriculum in a nurturing environment that feels like a second home. With the launch of its boarding house, the school is set to offer pupils exceptional learning opportunities and a supportive space to grow socially and personally.

The opening also marks the start of a new era for Charterhouse Lagos, one defined by opportunity, growth, and lasting memories for its pupils.
