•Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar

The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar, has called on Muslims across Nigeria to begin the search for the crescent moon that will signal the end of Ramadan.

The call was contained in a statement issued by Sambo Wali Junaidu, who serves as the Wazirin Sokoto and Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs, Sultanate Council Sokoto.

According to the statement, Wednesday, March 18, 2026, corresponding to the 29th day of Ramadan 1447AH, has been designated for the sighting of the new moon of Shawwal.

The statement urged Muslims to report any confirmed sighting of the crescent to their nearest District or Village Head, who will in turn communicate the information to the Sultan for official verification.

The statement further added that dedicated telephone lines have also been made available for direct reporting of credible moon sightings to the Sultan’s office.
